Three students have been chosen to receive the Oikonomia Scholarship, awarded by The King’s College in conjunction with the Acton Institute to students who embody the theological understanding and cultural engagement that the College values.
The three finalists are Josiah Simons, a Business major from Colorado Springs; Haley Davidson, a Media, Culture, and the Arts major from Leesburg, Georgia; and Amelia Boland, a Politics, Philosophy, and Economics major from Macon, Georgia.
About 30 students participated in this year’s contest, writing a 1,000 word response essay after watching the For the Life of the World series, a seven-part documentary that explores God’s plan for His creation, the purpose of salvation, and what it means to be “strangers and pilgrims” living in the “already but not yet.” Participants also submitted letters of recommendation from advocates.
“The essays from this year’s Oikonomia Scholarship winners represent wonderful examples of some of the best undergraduate articulations of the intersection of faith and learning in Christian higher education,” said Dr. Anthony Bradley, Chair of the Program in Religious Studies and Associate Professor of Religious Studies at King’s. “For the second year in a row, The King’s College is privileged to have Oikonomia students arriving this fall with such a deep understanding not only of the mission of our college, but also how King’s intends to prepare them to fully participate in God’s mission to redeem his world.”
The mission of the Acton Institute is “to promote a free and virtuous society characterized by individual liberty and sustained by religious principles.” For more information about the Acton Institute, visit their website.
