NEW YORK — September 3, 2014 — As many as four talented high school seniors will be awarded Founders Scholarships in 2015 and given the opportunity to study at The King’s College tuition-free. Beginning today, the competition will be used to seek students who demonstrate exceptional speaking, writing, and leadership prowess.

Details about this year’s contest topic, along with more information about the Founders’ Scholarship program and previous recipients, can be found here.

In order to win a Founders Scholarship, students must submit a 1200-1500 word essay and schedule a visit to The King’s College, located in Lower Manhattan, on select days during the Fall and Spring semesters during an Inviso visit weekend. While at The King’s College, Founders applicants will participate in a leadership and team-building exercise, and they will deliver a three to five-minute speech to a judging panel composed of King’s faculty, staff, and alumni. After completing these Founders events, applicants will spend the rest of the weekend learning more about The King’s College as they attend Inviso events including dinner and a Broadway show.

Noah Hunter, Director of New Student Financial Services, said, “The Founders Competition tests a student’s ability to write convincingly, speak persuasively, think critically, and work well within a team. We are looking for the best and brightest to take home one of these four full tuition scholarship. This scholarship captures the spirit of being a King’s student.”

Winners will be chosen and announced in April 2015.

“The Founders Competition—not the Scholarship—is what convinced me to come to King’s. The individuals I competed against inspired and challenged me,” said Taylor Campbell, 2012 Founders recipient. I realized I wanted to study alongside a certain sort of student—the same sort King’s attracts—critical thinkers willing to engage larger-than-life ideas and ask difficult questions.”

Campbell offered this advice to prospective applicants, “Those who compete for the Founders Scholarship are more than students; they are scholars. Do it if that’s you. ”

The Founders Scholarship is funded by a generous group of alumni and friends of the College who are dedicated to supporting the next generation of leaders.
