Dr. John Welch Named Dunn Liberty Fellow at The King’s College
Dr. Welch’s expertise in economics ranges from the NYC finance world to global endeavors such as the Brazilian-American Chamber of Commerce. He will teach two courses in economics this fall: Money & Banking and Economic Policy.

The King’s College is pleased to announce that Dr. John H. Welch has been appointed to the Dunn Liberty Fellowship in Economics for the fall 2020 semester, generously supported by the Dunn Foundation in honor of William A. “Bill” Dunn. Bill and Rebecca Dunn have worked tirelessly to ensure that all Americans are able to exercise the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. The fellowship provides Welch the opportunity to advance the mission of The King’s College by teaching select economics courses at the College while writing and speaking on public policy and free-market economics.
Currently, Welch works as the Executive Director at the Brazilian-American Chamber of commerce. He graduated from Columbia University with a degree in economics and received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of Illinois. In the past decade, he has held a variety of management roles on Wall Street, working as the Managing Director and Chief Economist at HSBC, CIBC, and the Macquarie Group.
As the Dunn Liberty Fellow, Welch will teach two courses in economics this fall: Money and Banking and Economic Policy. Before coming to New York, Welch taught as an assistant professor at University of Texas, Austin, University of North Texas, and Oakland University, and served as the senior economist with the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. He has been published in several professional journals and in his book entitled Capital Markets in the Development Process: The Case of Brazil (University of Pittsburgh Press, 1993).
